The Akamas Peninsula is located in the western part of Cyprus in Paphos District and has been included in the Natura 2000 Network, designated both as a Special Protection Area (SPA) and as a Site of Community Importance (SCI). It covers a total area 18.131 ha, of which 43.57% are marine area and 56.43% are inland area, the Akamas National Reserve Park. The study area is problematic in terms of landscape regime and economic activity. Akamas is a touristically developed nature area in the western part of Cyprus in the Paphos District. On the one hand, thanks to its wide golden sandy beaches and spectacular cliffs, thick green forests and numerous gorges it attracts a large number of visitors, on the other hand this threatens the naturalistic balance of the area.

Objectives and expected activities: The objective of the project aims to the protection, management and enhancement of the natural environment, taking into account the existing socioeconomic conditions. A broad baseline of analysis of the current conditions and human driven pressures, based both on available data and references, as well as extensive field work are available for the whole area. Evaluate the evolutionary trends concerning to the conservation status of habitats and species and the main pressures and threats mainly due to tourism development and the various existing economic activities.
