Project Objectives

Research and develop

Research and develop procedures for participatory action involving stakeholders in order to co-construct for landscape management and planning through means of citizen science, EO, Artificial Intelligence and Public participation GIS.

Promote knowledge and expertise exchange of all the partners to improve innovation and scientific excellence in the field of Landscape Ecology.

TOPIO Summer School 2026

Join us from 14–17 July 2026 in Rome and Terelle, Italy, for the TOPIO Summer School 2026: Interdisciplinary and Participatory Landscape Assessment for Evidence-Based Landscape Restoration. Organized by Sapienza Università di Roma and the TOPIO consortium, the programme includes topical and specialised lectures, a field visit to Monte Cairo, and participatory workshops with local communities on landscape change and land mapping, opening with the public Aperiscience event at the Botanic Garden of Rome.

TOPIO Second Autumn School

Join us from October 7–10, 2025, at the Landscape Observatory of Chamusca, Portugal, for the Second TOPIO Autumn School, Specialized Lecture, and Workshop. Organized by Instituto Superior Técnico – University of Lisbon and Casal do Gavião do Meio, the program will explore theories and practices of landscape ecology, the role of local landscape observatories, and methods for involving communities in landscape change. Sessions will include topical lectures, field visits, and participatory workshops.
